With the implementation of GST, accounting treatment has even become more complex and is time consuming to accurately capture the GST accounting treatment of each transaction. The monthly or quarterly submission of GST returns implies the need for up to date bookkeeping and at all times.
Not only GST, but the move to the adoption of Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and Malaysia Private Entity Reporting Standards (MPERS) has change the way certain transactions are accounted for.
Coping with these changes, requires adequate knowledge and preparation. Especially for SMEs, the MPERS is applied for financial year beginning or after 1 January 2017. More needs to be done in this transition period particularly for first time adopters.
SBM is well positioned to assist clients in:
- Preparation and submission of GST-03; be it quarterly or monthly
- GST accounting and review for users of Salihin Premier Solutions (SPS) accounting software.
- Preparation of annual financial reports (full sets of accounts for audit purposes) according to MPERS or MFRS and relevant regulatory requirements in Malaysia.
- Preparation of management accounts or reports.
- Training and education for MPERS or MFRS.
- Forensic accounting engagements.
- Installation and implementation of computerized Accounting Systems and controls.
SBM is the exclusive distributer of the SPS accounting software. With SPS, GST and full-set accounting is made easier. It is simple, efficient and professionally designed by accountants for any businessman. SPS comes into two distinct kinds. SPS v.14.01 and SPS Lite. For more information,Click here

Presently, SALIHIN-UMT TAF is in operation and is jointly managed by both SALIHIN and University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). SALIHIN-UniKL TAF has been soft-launched while other universities are in the pipeline.
Entrepreneurship
Central to this university-industry collaboration is the production of entrepreneurial minded accounting graduates. In the era of stiff competition in business and graduate employment, it is a matter of necessity, on one hand, for businesses to have access to talents with entrepreneurial acumen to tap business opportunities, and on the other hand, for graduates to be self-employed. As a result, the TAF is to also establish and operate an Accountancy Student Business Incubator (“ASBI”).
The ASBI is an educational learning laboratory designed to identify, inspire and educate students in entrepreneurship. Students will have access to the full depth of and breadth of TAF’s expertise and resources in diverse businesses across the industry. With in-house theoretical and technical support and experienced business mentors/trainers, the graduate students would be equipped with the relevant skills and experience necessary to create a positive influence on the society, the nation’s economy and beyond.

It has been more than a year since the implementation of GST. However, the Royal Malaysian Customs (RMCD) indicated that a number of businesses are still facing difficulty to understand the GST legislations, inadequate documentation for record keeping and poor maintenance of clients’ records. These difficulties result in penalty cases from failure to issue valid tax invoices to failure to furnish the correct GST returns. In March 2016 alone, RMCD recorded about 86.13% cases of non-compliance to GST returns submission.
Directly dealing with RMCD to seek solutions on technical guidance remains a daunting task, taking away precious time that could have been spent in strategic or tactical needs of the business. Thus, there is the need to appoint an Approved GST Agent to efficiently and effectively manage GST non-compliance risks. Without this cautious approach, the risks of non-compliance with the GST Act 2014 and the associated offences and penalties are high. These affect not only the bottom line but also the reputation of the business and its directors.
